Maria Perozzi, LMFT
Hey there!
The main thing to know about me is that I absolutely love being a therapist. I’m nearly two decades into my career and I still find myself excited, surprised, and humbled by the work. I’m continuously in awe of the bravery and vulnerability it takes to come to therapy and reveal ourselves. Our challenges, our pain, our pride, our needs. I’ll never take it lightly and I’ll never take it for granted. It’s an honor to show up with you to do the work.
“As a therapist, I am a companion.
I try to help people tune into their own wisdom.”
~ Virginia Satir
In our work together, my main goal is to help you get where you want to be. Using an array of therapeutic perspectives and tools, I want to fully understand each person’s unique challenges and needs to help facilitate the changes they are seeking. With a warm and inviting style, and humor where appropriate, I take a pretty direct approach to therapy. This process works best when both the client and the therapist are open and honest. This is where the value of the therapeutic relationship really shines to provide an environment of unconditional positive regard and acceptance so the work toward change can begin. It is with care, compassion, and respect that I can cheerlead and challenge at the same time.
I grew up in a small rural area and I didn’t even know therapy was a thing in my early youth. However, I’ve always been fascinated by emotions, relationships, and humanity. So once I learned about therapy, carving my future path of learning wasn’t hard.
I received my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Lebanon Valley College in 2004 (Go Flying Dutchmen!). I completed my Master of Science at Virginia Tech’s Marriage and Family Therapy Program in 2007 (Go Hokies!). I have interned/worked in various outpatient settings including a military base, community mental health serving youth and their families, outpatient private practice, and now here I am as the owner of True Spark Therapy. The further I get into my career, the more excited I am to follow my therapy passions and hone my skills. You could say I'm always working to keep the spark sparking.
Outside of loving life as a therapist, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I’m a partner, parent, daughter, sister, and pet-adorer. My hobbies include reading, gardening, hiking (the non-strenuous kind), trying new coffee shops, music, and cooking mostly edible things. I’m also a lover of puzzles, boardgames, Lego, and the occasional binge on Netflix.
